Magazine Analysis (RESUBMISSION)

Since I wasn’t there during the session at john Prince Street I had to do the magazine analysis at home. I chose the April 8th issue of the ES magazine. First thing I noticed was that the template of the magazine is quite smaller and lighter than other commercial magazines like Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar So the content is quite limited. That could be because ES magazine is just a small part of ES, The newspaper company. The cover of the magazine already starts of with a clear advertorial considering the large font sized Coach logo on the magazine. The logo of Coach is more visible than the logo of ES on the front cover.

Going inside the Zine we see another advertorial for Coach, A editorial featuring jodie Comer (A popular actress) and another advertorial for Waitrose. It’s obvious that this magazine isn’t just fashion focused. Usually when fashion magazines feature advertorials usually they are a clothing or a jewelry brand. But this magazine shows a mix of brands and big businesses.

There’s also the editors letter, this is a usual format for most magazines where the editors letter is presented first. He has a portrait picture of him and his letter mostly consists of him sort of introducing the content on the zine and just sharing current pop culture climate such as Putin, the Avengers, The TV show Killing Eve, Jodie Comer and Crypto.

My personal favourite part of the Zine is the “Need to Know” section where they present some really good TV shows, Exhibition, Albums and Movies. Being a movie fanatic myself i just personally like being recommended good content.

Here are some of my favourite pictures and pages from the zine.

There are not as many editorials as you would usually see on a fashion magazine. There were definitely more advertorials than editorials in this Zine. But there are also pages dedicated to beauty trends such as skincare and home decor content. But I would still categorize it as a somewhat fashion magazine because there are elements such as trends pages and fashion advertorials.
